Makaha Beach

“Woohoo!” I said when I whacked the wave.

One day at Makaha Beach my Mom, Auntie Cora, my two cousins, Chad and Andrew, Roger and I were having a picnic. I saw my friend Kendal there, too. The beach was mostly sandy with a little playground.

Once we got there we had to find a place on the beach. We found a spot were no one was and where there were big waves. Once we found a spot to sit, we set everything up. We set up a beach umbrella, the cooler, the musubis (moo-soo-bees), and the chairs.

There were really big waves coming in, so we went swimming. It was cool when the wave hit me and it rose me to the top of the wave. It was awesome. After we went swimming, we got our boogie boards and started sand sliding.

Sand sliding is a Hawaiian sport. Sand sliding and surfing are pretty much the same thing, but sand sliding is when the water comes up to make the sand smooth. Then once the water goes down, you run, lay the boogie board down, and jump on it to get speed and hit a wave.

“Want to play freeze tag?” Kendal asked me. My best friend, Kendal, and I love to play tag. One time when we played tag with our friends, Kendal was it and I ran so fast I fell on the smooth sand.

Freeze tag is a game when someone tags you and you stay still, and you’re frozen. First, whoever is playing puts their foot in a foot circle and says, “Ink pink you stink” and points at a foot, one at a time, until there is only one foot left. The last foot there is the person who is it.

Sometimes we get tired of the freeze tag, so we play dodge ball. We bring along a mini dodge ball maybe three inches long and wide. We call out, “Who’s it?” If I am it they call out,“Kekoa’s it!” Kendal is a good friend because when I met him he taught me a lot of things, and we played lots of games together.

If you want to play tag ask Kendal, and we will get to see how fast you are. Or ask me, and I will teach you sand sliding.
