Course Description: This course will be a hands-on learning opportunity intended to teach fun, new ways to get K-12 students excited about writing and reinforcing literacy skills. Teachers will be introduced to Web 2.0 tools and design interactive products, such as wikis, blogs, and vlogs to reinforce content literacy skills, motivate hesitant writers, develop student collaboration projects, and create genuine learning opportunities in their classrooms. The course will cover project-based learning for elementary to high school grades and explore applications of the 6+1 writing traits in an online environment. Teachers are encouraged to bring a digital camera for creating vlogs.
According to Wikipedia: The term "Web 2.0" describes the changing trends in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aim to enhance creativity, communications, secure information sharing, collaboration and functionality of the web. Web 2.0 concepts have led to the development and evolution of web culture communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, video sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies. Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to any technical specifications, but rather to changes in the ways teachers and students utilize the Web.
